voice flex core vocal trainer for singers

voice flex straw

5mm - Open Straw

The straw on its own, no cap. The lightest resistance in the kit. Start here for gentle warm-ups or a quick reset between songs or calls.

vocal straw for singing

3.5mm - Light

The widest cap. A bit more back pressure than the open straw, still easy for daily warm-ups. Move up to it once the open straw feels too easy.

voice flex core

2.5mm - Medium

You'll feel the air push back, so you have to work to keep the airflow steady. Use it for longer sessions, slides and sirens through your range.

sovt straw for speakers, actors and podcasters

1.5mm - Strong

The smallest opening gives the most resistance. You control every breath out. For experienced users who want a harder workout. Work up to it.

Voice Flex CORE is the simple, pocket-size way to start SOVT (semi-occluded vocal tract) training. Hum, slide or sing through the straw and the air backs up gently toward your vocal folds, so they meet with less force and your breath flows more evenly. Singers feel it as easier high notes and a smoother break between chest voice and head voice; speakers feel it as a voice that lasts through a long day. This straw phonation exercise is one of the most common warm-ups voice teachers and speech therapists give their students.

Why caps instead of several different straws? Loose straws get lost and mixed up. CORE gives you wide-bore metal straws and three color-coded silicone caps with 3.5, 2.5 and 1.5 mm openings. Use the straw open for the gentlest airflow, start with the light cap, then move to medium and high as your control grows. One straw covers the whole journey from first-day beginner to trained vocalist.

How to use it: 5 to 10 minutes of hums, lip-trill style glides, sirens and simple songs through the straw before you sing, record, teach or present, and a few minutes afterwards to cool down. It works completely dry, so there is no water to carry and nothing to spill in the car or backstage.

Who is it for? Pop, rock, R&B, jazz, opera, choir, worship and musical theatre singers; voice students and their teachers; actors, podcasters, public speakers and lecturers; and anyone rebuilding a tired voice. It also makes an easy stocking stuffer or birthday gift for a singer.

Is it hard to learn? No. If you can hum, you can use it, and the free training website walks you through each routine step by step. How do I clean it? Pull off the cap, rinse in warm soapy water, run the brush through the straw and let it air dry.

In the pouch: 2 stainless steel straws, 3 silicone resistance caps, 1 cleaning brush and 1 zip pouch.

  • WARM UP IN 5 MINUTES, SING WITH LESS STRAIN: Hum, slide or sing through the straw and gentle SOVT back pressure helps your vocal cords work with less effort. Daily practice helps you reach higher notes, connect chest and head voice, and build breath control
  • 3 RESISTANCE CAPS: Push a color-coded silicone cap onto the straw - light, medium or high (3.5, 2.5 or 1.5 mm opening). Start light as a beginner or when your voice is tired, step up as your control grows - no pile of loose straws to sort or lose
  • DRY SOVT, READY ANYWHERE: No water, no batteries, no mess. The slim zip pouch slips into a pocket, gig bag or mic case, and practice is quiet enough for an apartment, office, hotel room, the car or backstage between sets
  • FREE GUIDED TRAINING WEBSITE: Scan the QR code for step-by-step warm-up and cool-down routines, exercise flows and progress tracking for singers, speakers, actors, students and voice teachers. Your Amazon order ID is the login - no account, no subscription
  • 2 STRAWS, EASY TO CLEAN: Includes 2 stainless steel straws, 3 silicone resistance caps, a cleaning brush and a zip pouch. BPA-free mouth parts rinse clean in seconds - keep one straw at home and one in your gig bag, or share with a student or choir friend
